First occupied: 1870 and known as "The Limes"; later "North Corner"
The Limes, originally the home of John [William] Every, Iron Founder & Engineer; son of John Every the Iron Founder. [In 1892 John William Every, by then a widower, married his housekeeper Lydia Sophia Tune. He was 72 and she was 59. John died on the 9th November 1900 aged 81, and his widow continued to live in The Limes (see 1901 Census).]

1861 Census: John Wm Every (41) Ironfounder employing 19 men & 13 boys; his wife Elizabeth Every (44), their children: Elizabeth (16), Charlotte Ann (14) [& John (4) absent] at school [both b. Lewes]. Address: High Street, Lewes (All Saints Parish).
1871 Census: "The Limes" John Every (51) Ironmonger & Engineer; his wife Elizabeth Every (54), their children: Elizabeth (26) & John (14) at school [both b. Lewes]; one lodger & one servant Frances R Kennard (20) from Lewes. [Charlotte Ann Every m. Henry Wm Peirce in 1867 in Lewes. Her age 20.
No specific address, but the Parish is now St John sub Castro.
Elizabeth Every married Edward George Brown in Lewes in 1872. Her age 27.
1881 Census: John Every (61) Iron & brass Founder, Tin Merchant, Engineer, employing 74 men & boys; his wife Elizabeth Every (64), their son John H Every (24) [under] manager of the foundry works; one general servant: Ellen Smith (20) from Lindfield.
Elizabeth Every d. 1891/1 in Lewes aged 75 [no will found]. Elizabeth Feltus m. John Every in Plymouth in 1842. His age 22, her age 26.
1891 Census: John Every (71) widower, Ironfounder & Engineer b. 1820 Portsmouth, Hampshire; one servant: Lydia S Tune (58) housekeeper, from Brighton; Esther Funnel (24) housemaid, from Chailey; Mary Bartholomew (21) cook, from Rodmell.
Will: John Every ironfounder of Lewes d. 09.11.1900. Probate to John Henry Every ironfounder and Elizabeth Brown (wife of Edward George Brown). Effects £38,006 9s 5d.
1901 Census: Lydia S Every (68) widow, private means; one visitor, one boarder and two servants: Mary Bartholomew (29) cook, from Rodmell & Alice Mary Flint, housemaid, from Beddingham.
1911 Census: Anthony Berwick Were (84) m. Solicitor; his unmarried daughter Evelyn Constance Were (41) and one domestic servant: Nellie Lavinia Granshaw (33) from Brighton.
1939 Register: William A Watson (79) Major General Indian Army retired; his wife Marguerite A Watson (69); two servants: Emily M Willis (48) cook & Edith C Bond (48) house parlour-maid.
Planning applications:
1961: Outline application to erect a detached 4 bedroom house & garage: site of [now extant] 2A - 2B King Henry's Road and 1A 1B & 1C Prince Edward's Road. This application was approved, but no further action taken.
1962: Outline application to erect a pair of semi-detached, or two detached three-bedroomed houses with garages. Approved.
A further outline application was made for construction of 5 terraced houses in two blocks with integral garages. Again, it was approved, and the plan in this form was finally executed.
1966: 1 Prince Edward's Road: Outline Application for erection of single dwelling: approved
1967: 1 Prince Edward's Road: Erection of 2 detached three-bedroomed houses & a garage: refused
1967: "North Corner" Change of use from a flat into tutorial residence for 6 students
1978: "North Corner" An application was made for additional study bedrooms to the existing tutorial residence: approved
1984: "North Corner" An application was made for change of use from tutorial/residential to a residential home for the elderly, plus staff accommodation:approved.
1985:The property was sold by Evelyn Rosemary Rose to Martin John Pegler and Janet Patricia Pegler.
Martin John Pegler is still the registered owner of North Corner, and until very recently the property has remained as a residential home for the elderly, leased and run by managers.
